The Directorate for Demographic Affairs is composed of three departments.

. Elections Department

Its mission is to ensure the follow up of electoral operations.

It is responsible for the preparation of political elections (municipal [elections held every 6 years to elect members of the town council], cantonal [elections held every 3 years to elect half the members of the Conseil Général], regional [elections held every 6 years to elect members of the Regional council], general elections [held every 5 years], presidential, referendums and senatorial [held every 3 years to elect one third of the members of the Sénat], industrial elections (Conseil de Prud'hommes = industrial arbitration court], Chamber of Agriculture and land tenure).

It operates under the control of the administrative commissions for the revision of the electoral roll (French electors) and the supplementary electoral roll (European electors).

It is set up Cour de Flore.
Open from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 12:15 and from 1:30pm to 5:30pm.

. The Registry Office

Comprises 3 departments:

1. Cemetery, situated 239, rue d'Auxonne (other entrances: rue Fernand Holweck and boulevard Petitjean). Open daily all year from 8am to 5pm in winter and from 8am to 6pm in summer.

2. Registry Office (offices situated at the town hall, entrance Cour de Flore), for the reception of notifications of birth, the acknowledgement of children born out of wedlock, deaths, for the preparation of marriage files and the filing of applications for “ parrainages républicains”.

The Registry Office is open Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays, from 8:45am to 12:15 and from 1:30pm to 5:15pm.

3. Administrative formalities, for filing applications for French national identity cards and passports, for copies or extracts of certificates of birth, marriage, death (requests for certificates can also be sent by E-mail to direct-etatcivil@ville-dijon.fr), permission for a French minor to leave the territory, certificates of accommodation, certificates of inheritance, certificates of life, domicile (within the scope of procedures intended for a foreign country), for a certified copy of a document or the authentication of a signature (within the scope of procedures for a foreign country), for enrolment of the electoral lists and the registration of young people for the military census.

All these formalities can be carried out on five different sites, set up within the city:
- the 4 subsidiary town halls (Bourroches, Fontaine d'Ouche, Grésilles and Mansart), from Monday to Friday from 9am to 12noon and from 1:30pm to 6pm.
- the main town hall, offices situated at the town hall, Cour de Flore, from Monday to Friday, from 8:45am to 12:15 and from 1:30pm to 5:15pm and Saturday from 9:30am to 12:30.

. Census of the population
This department is charged with the census of the population within the territory of the commune. The new way of taking the census now results from an annual random survey among a series of addresses drawn by lNSEE (French national institution of statistics and information about the economy).

For the year 2006, information will be collected between Thursday 19 January and Saturday 25 February.
